Psychiatric Society - Eastern Zone has a glorious past. In the Madurai conference held in 1971, Dr. B. K. Jha was nominated
as the first convenor of the Eastern Zonal branch of the
society.At present the Eastern Zone consist of West Bengal ,
Bihar , Orissa, Jharkhand , Assam. Meghalaya, Nagaland,
Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Sikkimm . The
first conference of the Eastern Zone of the Indian Psychiatric
Society was held at the Hospital for Mental Diseases, Ranchi
on the 28th November, 1971. Dr. L.P. Varma was the Chairman
and Dr. B.K. Jha was the Convenor Secretary of the reception
Committee. The one day conference had 4 scientific session
where 14 papers on different aspect of schizophrenic illness
in India were presented . This was followed by a medical film
show. The proceeding of the conference were published .
Dr. A. K. Deb was the president
during the 2nd conference held in Calcutta on 1st & 2nd
October , 1972 at All India Institute of Social welfare &
Business management respectively. Dr. S. A. Hasib inaugurated
the conference and Dr. D. K. Basu was the chief guest. The
conference was organised under the leadership of Dr. D. N.
Nandi as the chairman and Dr. A. K. Sikdar as the Convenor
Secretary. There were 6 sessions and total 21 papers were
presented . Moreover, there were two symposia on "Your outlook
towards Psychiatry" where 12 experts delivered speech on the
subject .Dr. N. N. Wig, the then General Secretary of the
Indian Psychiatric Society also attended the conference . |
